AZ Science Center

Each year I get a membership to a different museum.  This year we chose the AZ Science Center.  We visited on Saturday as a family and had a great time.  We didn't see everything, so I look forward to returning

Sarah climbing on the weight wall...she's my little monkey:)

Me on the "sky ride."  I was 20 feet in the air on a cable.  I rode backwards to the end and then back facing forward.  I'm so glad I was brave enough to try it.  Although I could hardly look around, I felt like I was going to topple over the whole time.

Library Reptile Show

The library occasionally has presentations of various kinds.  Derek saw an advertisement for a reptile show, so of course he wanted to go:)  It was so neat...I enjoyed myself.  I didn't think I would. Of course I didn't bring a good camera, all I had was my phone, so the pictures are blurry.  And of course I thought I got a video of the gigantic snake, but didn't.  It spanned almost the whole length of the room.  We got to touch it too.

Reunion with Friends

While in Tucson this past June, I also got to meet up with a friend from college, Katy, and her kids.  We met at a park.  She brought water, bucket, sponges, and spray bottles which cooled the kids off.
It was so much fun meeting up with Katy and I so appreciated her bringing the entertainment.

UofA Mineral Museum & Science Center

Also while in Tucson we visited the University of Arizona Mineral Museum and Flandrau Science Center.  These are some pictures from the mineral museum, located in the basement of the building.  There were tons of gorgeous minerals.  This was Darrell's favorite part of the trip.  He spent well over an hour speaking with a curator at the museum.  He was asking questions and getting one on one answers.  He loved it!

So...how many of you have ever held $30,000 worth of gold?  Well we did:)  Of course Derek got to hold it first.  It was pretty amazing.  It's surprising how heavy this little chunk of gold is.

The science center wasn't huge, but the kids enjoyed it.  This was a climbing wall in the museum.

Of course, we can't leave the museum without a goofy Sarah face:)

AZ Sonoran Museum

Darrell had a week off from work the first week in June.  We headed to Tucson for something different.  We stayed at a Worldmark Resort with a pool.  The kids loved that.  We went on a few outings.  This one was to the Arizona Sonoran Desert.  It was stinking hot!!!  But, it was still fun.  We saw lots of cool animals and birds.  My pictures were not that great, so below is a little collage of some that we saw.  The bear was the most exciting for me because I haven't seen one before...at least not that I can remember.  There was probably a bear at the San Diego zoo when Darrell and I went there, but I don't recall...or it might have been asleep.

They had several exhibits that were quite enjoyable.  They have a cave (man made) you can walk through and a tunnel to walk up in to see stalactites and stalagmites.  I even went up and it was awesome.  They had a beautiful rock and mineral exhibit...Darrell's favorite stop.  At the end (outside) they had a pile of rock.  Each person is aloud to get one piece.  There were actually some pretty neat pieces...I even enjoyed looking for them.

These pictures were taken at an archaeology exhibit.  The kids dug around in the sand looking for "bones."  There was also an aquarium.  Not to exciting except for one tank.  The animal was called "garden eels," they were so cool! They were these little snake looking things that would be under the sand and then "grow" out of the sand bobbing up and down.  I have a short video that I don't know how to post here...maybe if I figure it out someday:)

By the end we were all EXHAUSTED! The heat had drained our energy and produced major tempers.

Piano

Emily and Derek are taking piano lessons from my Mom.  They have been working hard on songs for their recital.  We were not able to go but they received certificates for learning their songs.  The kids got to wear masks for the performance, so my kids got some too.
