There is a park near our house that has the canal running next to it. One day Darrell took them down there and they found green things growing. It doesn't even look like they are here in the valley, but they are:) I was not there so I can't write much about it, but it looks like they had fun.

Charcoal Experiment
Another successful science demonstration in the garage provided by dad. Darrell wanted to show Derek how charcoal is used to filter water. First they made dirty water with rocks, dirt, and they also put sugar in it.
The water bottle on the right contains the dirty water. The graduated cylinder on the left contains the water after being filtered through the charcoal. It is nice and clear and also sweet.
This is a picture of the homemade charcoal filter. Derek ground up willow charcoal and it was placed in the tube. The tube has a whole in the bottom. Both above and under the charcoal there are pieces of cotton to hold everything in place. The charcoal filter was placed in the funnel picture behind Derek's hand and the graduated cylinder was underneath. The dirty water was placed in the top of the charcoal filter and it slowly drained into the graduated cylinder.
